FOREIGN NOVELTIES

Le bon ton.—Among the most fashionable wraps this year are black silk paletots, short coats, and mantles. For cooler days, various wool wraps are also used; we provide their description here: The short coat called Klephte, with an Arabian hood and oriental sleeves, resembles a paletot from the front.

Kryspina, with a dress in small dots, trimmed with three similar diagonal ruffles, with a double piping, black and ash-gray. The collar is edged with a ruffle.

Arabian burnous of ash-gray cloth, in the shape of a large scarf, trimmed with a black cloth pleat, with large black tassels at the corners.

The Fatima short coat, also ash-gray, trimmed with ruching

of cloth cut into points, has a square hood in the Arabian style. All these wraps are suitable only for cool days; the following are for lighter wear: A black cashmere scarf, with medallions embroidered in satin, trimmed with black guipure lace. A double silk mantle in the form of a scarf, black, embroidered with satin and studded with lava pearls, trimmed with guipure or Chantilly lace. The paletot called Lucrezia, black silk, with an open collar with lapels. Very wide sleeves; small side pockets, trimmed with a ruffle. The Medea short coat, black silk, adorned with a violet ribbon and lace. At the bottom, a wide flounce, and above it three narrow ruffles. The Asmodea paletot with wide, flowing oriental sleeves. This paletot is cinched at the waist with a wide sultan’s sash, with fringe and pendants. Finally, a paletot that fits closely to the figure, with a diagonal flounce, trimmed with black velvet. Sleeves cut from the elbow to the hand, with a flounce and velvet at the seam. Let’s move on to hats: A hat of white silk tulle, encircled around the brim with a puff of black material, adorned on top with a black bow. The crown consisted of white tulle and black lace. The chin strap was made of black poppies mixed with straw. Another hat had a brim of braided straw, a black silk crown, and a similar chin strap. The chin strap consisted of black lace over the forehead, mixed with violets, and white blonde lace at the sides.
